Q. What is the difference between
Fragrance Oils and Essential Oils?
A.
Fragrance Oils normally are made up of a number of synthetic Oils
resembling or imitating Essential Oils creating a fragrance that will smell
like a flower, herb, plant, fruit or other fragrance. They are widely used in
corporations around the world for perfumery, skin and body care, and Spa
products.
A.
Essential Oils are natural concentrated essences derived from plants,
bark, roots, seeds, stems, flowers, leaves, and fruits.
EO’s are extracted (oil separated from the plant) in several
ways.
1.
Water Steam
Distilled: Uses steam to pull EO’s from the
plant.
2.
Expression: Presses EO’s from the peels and seeds of citruses, such as Orange,
Lemon, Lime, and Grapefruit.
3.
Enfleurage: An ancient and expensive method of extracting Oils that
is rarely used today except in a few places in France. Fragrant blossoms are
placed on solid sheets of warm fat (animal fat, lard, or solid vegetable fat)
which absorb the Essential Oil.
4.
Carbon dioxide: is a new method of
extraction using carbon dioxide gas to extract the Essential Oil. (The gas is
kept at a under high pressure at a constant temperature.) This process produces
a scent that is very close the plants scent because high heat is not used during
the process.
5.
Solvent Extraction: Uses very little heat, so it is able to produce essential
oils whose fragrance would otherwise be destroyed or altered during steam
distillation.
EO’s can be broken down into
smaller parts. Each oil is composed of many very tiny aromatic molecules.
Nature mixes and matches these compounds in various combinations. In this case,
it is a new smell as each different grouping makes yet another unique
fragrance.
Q. What
are the Scent Types Categories of EO’s?
A. Floral, Wood, Citrus, herbal, Spicy, Minty and Camphor.
Q. Why can I not use the Essential
Oils directly on the skin?
A. These oils are highly concentrated oils
and are too strong to use directly on the skin. They should always be diluted
in a massage or Carrier Oil. EO’s have different
strengths, so due to this the dilution ratios, they are going to be different
for each Oil. The usual dilution ratio is 2-4 drops of Oil per 8 Oz.of Carrier oil.
Essential Oils have medicinal effects because they are sometimes used to
treat ailments homeopathically. You may check with an Aroma therapist regarding
any essential Oils use: email us at aroma@hamptonaffirmations.com.
For example, Some Essential Oils are Photosensitive (Citrus Oils) and some Oils
are “Hot” oils- peppermint, Bergamot. Etc…) Always read on Essential oils
before using. Keep Essential Oils out of reach of children and pets. When used
properly and in a knowledged fashion, EO’s can be
very beneficial to a soothing and relaxing treatment.
